This lake is located in Manasagangotri, the sprawling campus of the university of Mysore. It is home to several species of birds and other marine life.

The 4 kms walking path circumvents the lake and is a popular destination for both morning and evening walkers.

This lake is immortalised by writers and poets like Kuvempu and R K Narayan who visited the vicinity ofthis lake and derived inspiration. They have captured its beauty and serenity in their works and hence it has acquired an aura of glory that is undimmed defying the passage of time. The good news is that the Governmetn of Karnataka has already planned to develop the lake in the manner of the famous Hussain Sagar of Hyderabad city.
